Setting Brendon loose in a toy store was a very, very bad idea, which was what Ryan had said all along. Jon said, "No, come on, it'll be fun," but what did Jon know, anyway?
Spencer had to get a present for his cousin Alex. That was how this started. Alex was turning eight next week, and he needed to buy something now so he could ship it to her from the road. "Do eight-year-olds still like toys?" he'd asked them.
"I still like toys," Brendon had said. Ryan had rolled his eyes.
After a short pause, Jon had said, "I think so. As long as it's not, like, blocks or something."
So Spencer had enlisted Jon to help him pick out his gift, and Ryan was stuck with Brendon, who wandered all over the store, wanting to try everything out.
Currently, he was focused on a bunch of viewfinders. He'd pick one up, click through it for a while, and then grab another. It was like watching an ADD kid in a field of shiny things.
"Hey, Ryan, this one's got Disney princesses!" Brendon stuck a viewfinder in his hand. "Look!"
"That's really okay," Ryan said. "I'm fine just standing here."
"No, but look," Brendon said. "You just put it up to your eyes and click. It's really cool. Try it."
Ryan sighed. He was probably never going to get out of there if he didn't just do what Brendon wanted. He put it up to his eyes and clicked a few times. Cartoon princesses smiled out at him.
"Neat, huh?"
"It's all right, I guess."
"Oh, are Disney princesses not your thing? This one's Winnie the Pooh." Brendon handed him another.
Ryan took it. Spencer owed him big time for this.

A few days after her birthday, Alex called Spencer.
"Hey, Spencer," she said. "Thank you so much for the charm bracelet and the puppy puzzle! I love them."
"I'm glad," Spencer said. "My friend Jon helped pick them out."
"THANKS, JON," she yelled into the phone. Spencer winced. After he'd hung up, he turned to Jon and said, "I hope you heard that."
Jon nodded.
"See?" Spencer asked Ryan. "Something good came out of that errand."
"At least Brendon didn't buy anything," Ryan allowed, but he was smiling, just a little.

Any mention of Brendon and Disney makes me flail so this is a definite win! :D

Yay! I agree, for sure. :D
